Lava
Founded in Årdal in Norway 1977 by Svein Dag Hauge (guitars) and Per Hillestad (drums), and was in the very beginning an instrumental jazz / rock band. The debut album "LAVA" was published in 1979. From album # 2 "Cruisin" (1981) bassplayer and keyboardplayer quit and new musicians came in: Rolf Graf (bass), Per Kolstad (keyboards), Sigurd Køhn (saxophone), Marius Müller (guitar). Egil Eldøen (vocals) teamed up with the band in 1982. LAVA has released 10 albums, among these - 7 studio albums and just now - a double live CD/DVD containing 14 songs performed with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK), and a 15 song DVD containing a complete concert from Oslo Jazz Festival 2005.
The members of the band is also performing with other artists as session and tour musicians.
– After traveling and touring the world for 30 years, including the tours as a backing band and opening act for soul diva Randy Crawford, it was natural for us to celebrate our 30 years as a band releasing a live CD/DVD, says Rolf Graf, LAVA’s bassplayer.
– Working as session- and touring musicians for other artist, LAVA is our playing ground where we can investigate our own ideas, says singer Egil Eldøen.
The musicians have separately or together worked with other Norwegian pop profiles as a-ha, Secret Garden, Sissel Kyrkjebø among more.
Both the CD featuring The Norwegian Radio Orchestra, and the concert with only the band line up, is recorded at Rockefeller Music Hall in Oslo. The album is produced by Svein Dag Hauge and Rolf Graf. Orchestral producer is Halldor Krogh. The CD is recorded by NRK, and mixed by Hauge and Graf at Stua Studio (Hauges studio).
The DVD is filmed by Medianor by Gunnar Hoaas, and is region free. This means you can watch it in all kinds of DVD-players all around the world.

Released 1983 on Polygram records A/S, Oslo; produced by Lava founder Svein Dag Hauge and played on by all original Lava members except Per Hillestad, who was replaced by Per Lindvall, Nina Askeland's "Start From Scratch" happens to be one of the best Lava records and a real jewel in westoast music. Dig into it...

LAVA is taking a period of rehearsal in april to work on old and new material for gigs this spring. We would like to turn our set upside down and see if we can find songs we haven't performed for years or at all. Besides this we would like to downscale the lineup to focus more on the basic side of the band sound. Skei April 16, (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=292898256011&ref=mf), Fredrikstad April 30, and Sarpsborg May 1, are booked gigs. More to come.
