Possibly the greaterst drummer of all time. He played on countless albums and at the same time he was a drummer in toto. He died in 1992 of a heart attack.

Of course, one of the world's best drummers!

An uncomparable drummer , a genius who has the chance with his three brothers to play in one of the greates band in the world. Like Richard Marx wrote about him`,' his lost is a heaven gain.
Perhaps once in a generation an artist comes along that brings the craft to the next level in a quantum leap: i.e.; Hendrix/guitar, Cetera/vocals, Herb Alpert/trumpet...Jeff was one of those guys. His peers (no slouches either) all looked up to him. What he is best know for is perfecting "the shuffle" although he didn't invent it. He had the Midas touch and traveled everywhere with a small tape recorder so he could record ideas wherever he happened to be playing. I still miss his presence on the scene. Can't imagine the loss his parents, siblings, wife and children have felt in their lives.
Hi joel,

Porcaro is my idol, a consummate professional. Unbelievable groove, immaculate timing, supersonically tasteful! He never overplayed, never underplayed, when a cut needed to be laid back he played behind the beat perfectly, if a cut needed more energy he played on top of the beat with ease. It's amazing how modest he was, Porcaro once said in an interview that "His timing sucked"! How he could think such a thing is mind boggling! He also attributed his style to his hero's without taking any of the glory himself, name checking such greats as Jim Keltner, Jim Gordon, John Guerin (R.I.P), Purdie, Colaiuta, Gadd etc. There are SO many definitive Porcaro performances it's simply impossible for me to pick my favourites! Here are some choices off the top of my head;

Gimme The Goods - Boz Scaggs

Gaucho - Steely Dan

Michael McDonald - That's Why

Leo Sayer - Fool For Your Love

Steve Kipner - The Ending

Char - Nice Changes

Tom Scott - Street Beat

Carole Bayer Sager - Easy To love Again

Carly Simon - Nobody Does It better

Michael Bolton - When A Man Loves A Woman

Larry Carlton - Room 335

Donad Fagen - Ruby Baby

Pages - Automatic

Leon Ware - Slippin' Away

As you all know, i could keep adding cuts all day! He's was & is one of the players that will be influential for the rest of time.

Regards

Barney from Samuel Purdey
My favorite drummer of all time...just wish I would have been able to meet him before he passed away. What a huge loss...
