Peter replied to Bernard's discussion My first post: how do you define Westcoast music?
"You elaborated it nicely, but what fascinates me is how this kind of music was popular in '70 and '80, i mean to say, melodic music was utterly popular in those decades and all of the sudden after 1991-2 something changed, all non-melodic…"

"What fascinates me, is how major artists like Carole King can do great Westcoast tracks later in their career (You're The One Who Knows, 1977), but most of her fans only know her earlier work, which had more minimal production. Same deal with…"

Hey pal. There are so many great, relatively unknown westcoast artists out there. I rearranged my playlist to put a few of my favorites at teh top. (Although all 99 songs are among my favorites). If you want to start exploring some classic westcoast, I'd start with bands like Neilson-Pierson, Greg Guidry, Airplay, anything with Jay Graydon, and work your way out. Feel free to look over my playlist and sample songs from there and search the internet for more by each artist. You'll find that certain musicians found their way onto many of the westcoast songs...Jeff Porcaro, Jay Graydon, Steve Lukather, etc.
