There is something familiar about this music. Flavors of early Genesis and Phil Collins; Crosby, Stills & Nash harmonies at times (“Prime Mover”), Barry Gibb and the Bee Gees, Loggins and Messina, and more, play across the selections. In this way, the music sounds like an old friend (to those of us old enough to remember these musical groups, that is). Mr. Kinny’s lyrics, however, are certainly…

Øyvind Sunde said… I agree with you; you have your own sound. But as you may have experienced, people love to compare one artist/band to another one. I would imagine that making one's own style might be tough, since there are so many styles in the "market" already, but from the 4-5 track I've heard of you as far as now, it really seems as you have succeeded. I am sure it takes a lot of time and creativity! Greeting from Øyvind in snowy Gjøvik.
Øyvind Sunde said… Hi Rod. I got your message. My musical taste have been strongly influence by my elder brother, Torbjørn Sunde(born 1954), because he has been a Chicago-fan since 1969, and he became a pro trombone-player in 1972, and he has played and toured with the internationally well-known Norwegian jazz-guitarist, Terje Rypdal, around 1975. This was a breakthrough in his career. Even though Torbjørn is more of a Miles Davis/Weather Report inspired musician, he is also very found of West Coast, Soul and R&B. For him, playing with Bill Champlin in 2010, was also a great moment in his career! It is NO DOUBT where I have got much of my musical taste from!! :) Recently, I put one of the prettiest songs he has ever made(my personal view) on Youtube, with his permission. I made a "slideshow" to "support" his music; his song has an environmental message. Here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xI730fXkhU&context=C392ff6cADOEgsToPDskLmClOJQsqTN7g35Ek6UcN1
I really like the American rock tradition that you represent. Bands/artists that many music-lovers are not very aware of is John Cougar (Mellenkamp) and Reo Speedwagon. What do you think about these guys? For some funny reason, when I play J. Cougar's "Jack and Diane," it reminds med SO about the Midwest and the small farm-villages on the prairie. Probably because I was in Grand Forks, ND, when I heard the song for the very first time!! :) Are you a Cougar and R. Speedwagon fan? Did you know that Bill Champlin did som vocals with R. Speedwagon long time ago?? Keep up w/ your good work among the 10,000 lakes!!! Best regards, Øyvind S.
PS: On my Youtube-channel, "oyvind1962," there a a couple of other Norwegian West Coast-song that I have uploaded. By brother has also played with of Norway's most famous West Coast-band, called LAVA. Check it out!
Øyvind Sunde said… Hi Rod. I have listen to the first 4-5 tracks that you have presenter here. It is beautiful music. You have your own personal style. I guess that you sometimes get tired of people comparing your music to other's music, but I do it anyway(ment as a compliment): As I said, it is YOUR style of music, but I can sometimes hear a llitle bit reminding me of Chicago (the band), Christopher Cross, Robbie Dupree and an Australian duo from the '90s from Australia, called "Bachelor Girl."(if you haven't heard them, you should try it!), and sometime just a little "touch" of Rascal Flatts. On some songs, you have horns. I like that; that's partly why I am a Chicago-fan. My brother is a professional trombone-player, and he played with ex-Chicago member Bill Champlin on a Norweian/Russian Tour in 2010. Here is the an edited videoclip of several songs they played, mostly Champlin's own songs. When my brother writes horn-arragements, he is accused for "Chiacagoaizing" the songs. Ha ha!! Listen to the clips/video, and tell me whether you agree to that! Link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZvEWwgbOzY I have been two times in the Twin Cities and two times in Brainerd, MN, and I love the area!! Greetings from Øyvind
